with the entire batch as well as faculty advisors
against rejection and multiple offers. Therefore, new institutes. Organisations that have been
IGIDR has been following a placement week
system that is much more fast-paced and gets
completed within a day or two. It was important to
preserve the essence of the placement week
process so as to benefit from it while keeping in the quality of education and training provided at
mind the limitations of the virtual setup.
The employment market across the country
witnessed a sharp widening of inequality during
the pandemic. While on one end, thousands of
people were losing jobs and unemployment
reached record high levels, on the other end the
most prestigious and well-known institutes across
the country saw an improvement in their
placement statistics. In order to be situated at the
fortunate end, the students needed to be well
equipped with the knowledge of their course
material along with other skills that are considered
desirable in the industry. To facilitate sharing of
such knowledge, the placement committee came
up with multiple new initiatives such as the
internship discussion program, sessions with
immediate seniors, etc. Having regular meetings
and members of the administration was also
important to establish clear communication
between the various stakeholders so that all the
processes could be conducted smoothly.
Seeking Alumni Support
The biggest challenge before any placement
committee is to get new recruiters and to
encourage existing ones to offer better and more
diverse profiles. This becomes even more
challenging in a recessionary phase when
recruiters become highly averse towards exploring
regular recruiters at our institute are always keen
to continue hiring. This is because the alumni of
our institute have built a good reputation among
their colleagues and seniors, and are a testament to
IGIDR. However, due to small batch sizes and
limited promotion of the institute across the years,
such organisations are few. Therefore, it becomes
important to seek the help of our alumni, many of
who are in strategic positions across various
companies.
This year, along with directly reaching out to the
alumni for their help, we made conscious efforts
throughout the year to take measures that
strengthen the bond between the alumni and their
alma mater. Starting from an informal closing
report that compiled various messages sent by our
alumni containing their memories of IGIDR and
the role that it played in shaping their careers, to
keeping the LinkedIn page active with regular
posts regarding the activities and achievements at
IGIDR, there was a sincere effort done to rekindle
