the sense of belongingness that alumni have with their alma mater. The members of the Alumni Committee
also played an integral role in this by organising virtual sessions with alumni from diverse disciplines and
       backgrounds.
The alumni of any institute are its most valuable assets, and having a robust network that facilitates both

inter and intra batch communication is essential in strengthening the reputation of an institute. There is
much that needs to be further done in this regard, and we are hopeful that the future batches will do a great
job in expanding the ambit of such initiatives.
       D-Day

The Placement Season for 2021 was scheduled in the third week of December, and by the first week of the
month, we had received confirmation from a good number of companies. It was in contrast to the situation
just a month ago, when there were hardly any confirmations and it appeared that it would be the worst
placement season in the history of IGIDR. But getting confirmations accounted for only half the work. The
new virtual process that we had built needed to work perfectly. Any disruption or breakdown in the system
would not only add to the anxiety of students appearing for placements but also tarnish our reputation in
front of the companies. Therefore, all the members of the Placement Committee spent hours with their

designated company officials before the placement day, explaining to them the rules and the process to
avoid any confusion on the final day. Multiple simulations were conducted with the batch to ensure the
process worked seamlessly and that everyone was familiar with it.
The placements went on for a week, and every slot witnessed a higher number of offers than what we had
initially anticipated. This showed that the students were well prepared and had worked extremely hard.
The company officials congratulated the committee on conducting a well-laid-out process and some even

inquired to know more about it, as they wanted to replicate the process for recruitments at other institutes.
Despite the unprecedented scenario, we were able to conduct one of the most successful placement seasons
       ever conducted at IGIDR.
       The Way Forward

The rapid growth in the field of data analytics and artificial intelligence has created many opportunities for
students having a robust conceptual understanding of statistics and econometrics. This is also evident from
the fact that many prestigious institutes across the country are now offering dedicated courses and degrees
in Data Analytics. The students of IGIDR, an institute known for its specialisation in econometrics courses,

stand to gain a lot from this digital revolution.
While IGIDR enjoys a good reputation among various industry leaders and recruiters, there is much that
needs to be done to realise our full potential. One of the biggest advantages of having a small batch size is
that every individual with an idea can make themselves heard and ensure their ideas are put into action.
A good placement record has a positive spillover on attracting talented students from across the country.
This will not only ensure a more diverse set of students but also help us achieve our vision of developing as

an institute of high international standing and join the league of world-class centres of excellence.
